Hi! I am Pam Lorentz, and I am so excited to be teaching the Reading Elective and two classes of 8th grade English Language Arts this year. I am a proud Clemson graduate (Go Tigers!) and have three degrees (B.S. in Accounting, B.A. in Elementary Education, and MeD in Learning Disabilities) from that "pawsome" university! My areas of certification include: Elementary Education, Learning Disabilities, Middle Level English Language Arts, and Reading. This is my 29th year of teaching, all in Lexington School District 2. I have taught at Fulmer Middle School (1992-2005), Airport High School (2005-2014), Congaree Elementary School (2014-2017), and Cayce Elementary School (2017-2018). I am pleased to be a part of a middle school faculty, once again!!! This school year will be my third year at Northside, and it is going to be a year like no other, but I think that is a good thing for me and the students.
I love working with students to find that "just right" book that turns them into readers! Although, it has been a few years since I taught 8th grade English Language Arts, I am excited about the challenge. Technology that we have now was not available then, so I will be taking what I know worked well with pencil and paper and seeing how I can convert it to a digital platform. Yes, you can teach an older teacher new tricks!! Whether your child has me for Reading or English Language Arts 8, or even both, please know that I am committed to helping them have an outstanding year at school in 2020-2021.
I also believe that it is important to support my students in their extracurricular activities, so I hope to be in attendance at athletic events, fine arts performances, dances, etc. Students who know that their teachers care about them will care about doing well in school, and I want my students to know I care.
When I am not at school, I like to spend time with my family and friends, read, watch college football and basketball games, and walk. I enjoy spending as much time as possible at the beach, and already have plans to spend my Spring Break 2021 in Hilton Head, and July 4th Week 2021 in Garden City. There is something about the ocean that relaxes and rejuvenates me. I am a proud aunt of two nieces (junior at NC State and freshman at the University of North Carolina) and two soccer-playing nephews (senior in high school and sophomore in high school).
I look forward to a fabulous 2020-2021 school year filled with great books and great memories!
