My name is Kendrick Kerr. I was born in Ohio, lived in Mississippi but was raised in South Carolina. I lived in the Charleston area for 20 years and have lived in the midlands for the last 20 years. I am married with 2 children. My older son graduated from the University of South Carolina and my younger son is a Junior at BC High School. My spouse also works in education in Newberry County. We have a small 2.5 acre hobby farm in West Columbia. We love to travel and just recently returned from a trip to the Czech Republic.

This is my 29th year in education. During this amazing journey, I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math, science, language arts and social studies. But my true passion is teaching science. I have attended NASA’s Urban Community Enrichment Program and the NASA Educators’ Workshop. My students have worked with scientists to study the effects of microgravity on plants and gathered weather data as part of the GLOBE Program. My students have also enjoyed studying genetics with USC professors and the Center of Science Education at the University of South Carolina. At my previous school, my students participated in the South Carolina Green Step Schools and earned several distinctions and awards for their work on environmental and ecological projects including a school garden and bluebird trail.

I am a constructivist teacher; I strongly believe that students build a better understanding of the world by engaging in hands-on and minds-on learning experiences. We typically just use the textbook to make the inclined planes taller! My class motto is “Learning by Doing”, and I encourage students to explore the magic and mystery of the amazing world in which they live!!

Students will be using Google Classroom this year as the organizational tool for class assignments but all grades will be found in ParentPortal.  Students will be given access to their Google Classrooms once they receive their Chromebook during the first days of school.  All parents with an email on file with the school will be sent a Parent/Guardian invitation to Google Classroom that provides daily/weekly summaries of assignment progress.

Please contact me ([email protected]) if you ever have any concerns or questions.

          Be well!
