Sixth-grader heading to regional competition in spelling bee

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- After roughly an hour and nearly 170 words, Lexington Two had its district spelling bee winner. Northside Middle School sixth-grader Ivy Smith, left, will represent Lexington Two in the regional competition of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is shown with second-place finisher Emma Summers, competing in her first spelling bee; and third-place finisher Eric Floyd, who won last year’s school-level competition. South Carolina’s representatives will compete in March at the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, presented by Bank of America, as part of the competition leading to the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
