New boarding/departing procedure in place for bus riders

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – As part of Lexington Two’s commitment to safety, Lexington Two bus riders are now scanning their district-issued ID cards when boarding and departing buses at their regular bus stop locations during morning and afternoon routes.

Middle/High School Students

Here’s what families of middle and high school students need to know:

  • Parents/guardians should make sure they have downloaded the Ride360 App and entered their student's information. Click this link to get the app: https://www.lex2.org/apps/pages/ride360 . Having the app allows families to get real-time updates on their child’s travel, as well as track whether the bus is nearing, or has departed, the stop that their child uses.
  • If a student forgets his/her ID card, the bus driver can look up the student by name.

Cards will be scanned during regular morning and afternoon bus routes. Students who go on field trips or travel on buses for extracurricular activities will not be required at this time to scan in ID cards before boarding or departing these buses.

If you have any questions about these new procedures, please contact the Transportation Office at 803-755-7453 (BC hub routes) or 803-755-7455 (Airport hub routes).

ID Cards for Elementary School Students

Elementary school students will be given district-issued identification cards. They are already in use in our  middle and high schools.

These new ID cards, for kindergarten through 5th grade students, will not only help monitor students in activities throughout the school day but will make it easier for them to perform a variety of functions with a single card, such as picking up meals and checking out library books. The cards contain the student’s name, photo, school, and grade level. These cards are for use within the school district only and will not be shared outside of Lexington Two.

Students in 3rd through 5th grades are expected to wear their ID cards during the school day. Each school will work with students in kindergarten through 2nd grades on the best plan for displaying their ID cards.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUS RIDERS

Elementary school students who ride the bus to and from school also will scan their ID cards when they board and depart the bus on regular morning and afternoon bus routes.

Here’s what families of elementary school bus riders need to know:

  • At this time, 5K-5th grade students will need to scan their ID cards on buses. Students in 3K-4K will not need to scan ID cards initially, as bus drivers will key in their names when they board and depart.
  • If a student forgets his/her ID card, the bus driver can look up the student by name.
  • Parents/guardians should make sure they have downloaded the Ride360 App and entered their student's information. Click this link to get the app: https://www.lex2.org/apps/pages/ride360 .
