About the Northside Middle School Counselor
Hi there! I’m Sandy Tanner, the Northside Middle School Counselor. I’m so thrilled to be working with the school’s students, parents, administration, teachers and surrounding community. This is my third year at Northside Middle school after serving 6 years at an elementary school in Richland 2. Before becoming certified as a school counselor, I was a therapist in a residential treatment center for children and adolescents. I earned my Bachelor’s (Psychology), Master’s (Rehabilitation Counseling) and Education Specialist (School Counseling) degrees at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. I am a state certified school counselor (k-12) and have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for almost 30 years. I am a native of Lexington County where I currently live with my high school sweetheart and husband almost 30 years, and my son who is 17 and a senior at River Bluff High School. Also living with us are our two crazy shih tzus, Ruby and Chewie. My two other children-both daughters- are 27 (is an Occupational Therapist) and 20 (currently a junior at USC). I love reading, crafting and being anywhere near the water. We spend a lot of time on Lake Murray or on Edisto Island. Of course, I adore Gamecock football!
My main priority is helping students navigate the school year while exploring individual interests and strengths, and promoting academic and social/emotional success. I love working with children because of their innate curiosity and love of learning. I look forward to meeting and working with them and always welcome feedback and suggestions. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time!
